Rose I am not sure what area you are talking about that sewer and water is not optional, because in Tahmoor residents continue to have access to sewer out the front of their homes but are not required to hook up as they have a working bio cycle system that complies with council regulations, and this has been available for at least 19 years that I know of, so you are not required or have to connect up, however the "grace period" that you speak of, is the reduced cost you will pay in the first 12 months and will not remain the same after that and from what I understand it is more after that. Again this is just my information and I could be wrong, but I hope that helps.

I like your comment, and as for the author using the internet, its because I like technology and I like and use all aspects of it, so I therefore will continue to use what is available to me. I would love internet and water and sewer, but priority wise I want water and sewer before internet, if all 3 are available great, but as I say my priority is water and sewer first. As for the deleted post, the emotional issues of some of the residents on other pages made me remove only my responses to them, nothing more, no other persons responses have been removed, only mine. I really appreciate the thoughtful responses I am getting from some of the residents and the meeting is something for the community and would recommend going if your interested. They are on monthly at the school.

I am new to the area so I am not up to date with everything, but there are some interesting arguments here. After receiving a flyer in the post box yesterday I thought I'd have a look. I'd like to have town water available, but I can also understand how others might not want it. I cannot understand how someone can say that you will not be forced to connect to town water. Every person I know who has lived in an area where town water and sewer was introduced, after a "grace period" of about 12 months, every home was forced to connect. It is not optional. The "why is internet more of a priority than water and sewer" question is an interesting one too. I run my own business. From home. I currently have tank water and a septic tank that serve our needs. But without the internet my business wouldn't run. If the argument for town water was phrased as "Would you prefer town water/sewer or internet access?" it would be really interesting to see what the response was :-) It's interesting that the person who started this petition used the internet, and is using the internet, to gain support for the cause. Technology is a way of life everywhere now, not just where there is water and sewer. The argument doesn't hold water really (pardon the pun lol). As I said, I wouldn't mind town water. It seems to be a very emotional issue though. Why is there stuff that says [deleted]? And what's the meeting that's been referred to?

I just want to update and let people know that "the ruralness" claim and clean water/garden option is not the main reason for the objections by SOME respondents. It has been stated repeatedly by some people with a post on the local community page receiving well over 100 comments by actual residents of the community that the majority feeling from residents for not wanting it is the cost factor not "clean water and nice garden", so in effect the claim of the community ie: ruralness" is not supported on the local page by the majority of posts. Residents that don't have to pay or maintain anything don't want to add a cost to their household bills and I can appreciate that, but for some residents who do not have the facilities of others they are paying exorbitant fees that are not necessary particularly when all we want is what the rest of the shire has basic amenities. So please don't confuse or buy into "its for my nice garden", because according to the posts this is not the reason, it is purely cost from the opposition according to their own statements.

I think everyone should know this petition is only to get sewer and water connection to Yanderra at that point it will be up to the individual homeowner to connect. NO ONE will be forced into connection at any point, but I think the comments from the residents are definitely unfair and somewhat misleading as they do know they wont be forced into connecting, it will be their individual choice, so I think it is fair to say the reasons for the objections by residents are not what they appear. All we are asking is for the water and sewer connection, we are not asking people to connect, all we want is to be allowed to connect to basic amenities. We want choice and as a democratic society that's a fundamental right, the right to choose. We did not realise that some residents of this "rural community" prefer a dictatorship.

The hypocrisy in this from the residents who oppose is just astounding and beyond belief, they complain about not wanting water and sewer as they want to remain rural but yet they use mobile phones, ipads, computers, plasma tvs, cars, if you want to live rural then why are you using technology, oh thats right you want to use 2015 technology when it suits you, and then claim rural when it doesnt. Double standard I think

Bob thank you for your thoughtful response. I appreciate it and it is this kind of discussion we are looking for. I want it for a few reasons, sanitary reasons first and foremost and I encourage you to attend the meeting to hear what we are referring to, there have been outbreaks of illnesses with some of the residents suffering both acute and chronic illnesses as a direct result of not having basic amenities again not something I am prepared to go into now, but should you have time to attend the meeting, I am sure it may give you a different perspective, and as for house prices, effective of recent homes for sale in the area, they are still being sold with agents telling potential buyers that water and sewer is coming and that is misleading and that is something no seller wants to do as that will be very costly, so for those that are selling their homes they may want to let their agents know not to do that, and that is something that is still being done. I appreciate your thoughtful response.

i live in yanderra and have done for some time yanderra has its own facebook page where people living in this little village (not a sydney suburb) can bring up the issues of the day, now if you remove the lost dogs/found dog posts the two biggest things posted are some what related the the lack of storm water control and every time it rains the loss of phone/internet as the telestra ducts are also the storm water pipes. i was at home on the day the last bushfire came through yanderra and if anyone thinks they could fight this with a garden hose and mains pressure should have a look at themselves. i have a 10,000l tank which is always full and connected to a point at the front of my house only for the RFS i spoke to the area captain about this and was given the correct RFS fitting so they can connect with no fuss they where also told to protect them selves first house last it is i do not want anyone hurt when i have packed up and run away as told to by the RFS a lot of the houses in this area have onsite sewer treatment which must be inspected and maintained by a qualified person every 4 months this pumps out the treated sewerage onto your gardens keeping them nice and green all year round as all water used onsite is used twice, eg once to wash second to water the garden. if you read the yanderra facebook post on this matter the biggest reason for wanting this "basic human right" is people want their home values to go up, now if there were health reason eg common out breaks of diarrhoea etc from untreated raw sewerage running down the street i would strongly be in the yes camp but to argue we need water and sewer to improve home values (i moved here knowing that i would be on tank water and septic) when this little village needs so much more ie storm water control, phone lines which work when it rains, roads you can drive on with out damaging your wheels, a bridge with two lanes (was two now one lane no reason given if there is an accident on the hume highway the

I cant believe that a sydney suburb has no water or sewerage in 2015 that is a disgusting state for people to live in especially in our australian heat and especially in this area that is so prone to bushfires. These people are also expected to pay the same rates for even less amenities. Get this fixed wollondilly council and use taxpayers funds to actuqally benifit the shire instead of feathering your own nests
