Campaign For Elm Wood School Places
Elm Wood School, part of the Gipsy Hill Federation, is a popular local school which has been judged 'outstanding' by Ofsted. In September 2011 only a handful of children without a brother or sister already at the school have received places to start reception. In 2012 the situation is even worse: there are already more than 30 siblings expected to apply for places, meaning that children without a sibling have virtually no chance of getting in to the school, no matter how close they live, and even some siblings will be turned away because of the lack of space. This means Elm Wood is no longer able to effectively serve the local community. We are petitioning Lambeth Council and the Department for Education to secure funding and intelligently plan for the expansion of Elm Wood Primary School to two form entry. We have the support of the leadership team and the executive head teacher of the Federation.
