The local authorities finally agreed to our terms and the new safety protocols are being implemented across the city. It has been a long and draining road to reach this point, but our community can finally breathe a little easier. We will keep monitoring the situation closely to ensure this …

First of all, we would like to introduce ourselves. We are members of different associations working within Greater Manchester area, now part of Action Council, formed to address issues affecting Kerala community. There are approximately 3000 kerala ( Malayalee) families in and around Greater Manchester area and we represent all those people, irrespective of caste, creed or political legions. Since Malayalee migration started in early 2000, Greater Manchester was a major hub for Malayalee settlement. Now Malayalee Community in Manchester play a vital part in the development of the local area, and are active members of the local society. In the early stages of the migration, we were faced with racism and other minor crimes, directed towards families of our community, especially living in deprived areas of Greater Manchester such as Wythenshawe, Northern Moor, Fallowfield, North Manchester, Salford and others. We had to stand up against this. So we conducted various awareness programmes among our members and conducted meetings with the Police, Housing, Councillors, MP’s and others entrusted with the responsibility to provide a safe and secure environment to all citizens. This had an impact on the issue and we were glad to say that even though there were isolated incidences of racism or minor crimes, the Community were generally happy since then. In recent years, this situation has changed again. We are very sorry to say that on a daily basis, members of our community is getting increasingly targeted by people with antisocial elements and subjected to crimes such as thefts, robbery, damage to our houses and properties such as cars, sheds etc, and subjects to racism from all fronts. We are saddened to say that it was all directed towards the Kerala Community alone. So it is time to stand for our rights. It might not have affected you, but it is our responsibility to stand for our fellow Malayalee families… We should unite and fight for our rights to dignified life… So please join in the campaign...join hands with the community to address these issues… Uniteed we stand...Create awareness and mobilise public interest  by pasing the word . Please sign now..

Thank you

The stories coming in from families across Manchester are difficult to read and they remind me why this fight is unavoidable. I am spending my nights documenting these reports to present to the council because we cannot keep living in fear while they stay silent.

Unbelievable that this is happening in 2017. Nobody should have to live in fear of being targeted like this. Hope the police actually start listening for once.

Lived in Manchester my whole life and it breaks my heart to hear what the Malayalee community is going through. Everyone deserves to feel safe in their own home.

Things have been getting way worse lately in Wythenshawe. My family doesnt feel safe going out at night anymore. Enough is enough and something needs to change.

Seen too much of this. People just want to live their lives in peace and provide for their families. Sick of the abuse.
