Parents, students and teachers at Cambria Heights Academy (CHA) call it the DOE’s “Best kept secret.” CHA boasts outstanding graduation rates, a CTE program in computer science, and a rich advisory program. CHA has a school-wide focus on social-emotional learning (SEL) which gives it that small community feel. The one thing missing for students at CHA? A gym.

The benefits of Physical Education for the physical and mental health of students has been long documented. Currently, students at CHA have to make due with using converted classrooms and the cafeteria as their only space for physical activity and performing throughout the year.

All NYC students deserve a proper space to exercise, improve their physical health, and perform. We petition the Mayor, the Department of Education and the School Construction Authority to build Cambria Heights Academy a proper gymnasium / auditorium.
