“If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music.”
-Albert Einstein
Al had a point, as he usually does. Music is a great expression of our human creativity.
At Caltech, we are very fortunate to have the resources through which we can express and share the great gift of music. But now the future of the Caltech Recording Studio is at stake. As you may or may not know, the Winnett Student Center is being renovated into the Hameetman Center as the result of a very generous gift from trustee Fred Hameetman and his wife Joyce. It is up to us, the studio users, to express our support for the continuation, maybe even improvement, of this amazing resource that is available to all members of the Caltech community.
Please sign and share this petition if you would like to see the continuation of the Caltech Recording Studio in the newly renovated Hameetman Center.
I have been meeting with the renovation planners to emphasize that this space is not just a room of equipment but the heart of our community. The silence from the administration is becoming difficult to ignore but your signatures are the tool I use to keep this conversation active.

Seeing this level of support for the studio reminds me how many of us find our balance through music here. I spent so many nights in that space to clear my head from the lab and I am truly moved that so many others feel the same way.

Spent so many late nights here. Would be a huge shame to lose it now.
