Call for Action: Parliamentary Strengthening for Democratic, Peaceful and Sustainably Developed Societies
CALL FOR ACTION
In times when democracy is under pressure, while at the same time conflicts and armed violence is on the rise, global parliamentary action is more vital than ever to contribute to more peaceful and sustainable development. However, the future of organisations such as the Parliamentary Forum on Small Arms and Light Weapons (PFSALW) is uncertain due to shifting donor priorities.
PFSALW is the only membership-based organisation gathering parliamentarians globally across party-political lines, specifically related to the reduction and prevention of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) related violence. It is an organisation constituted by parliamentarians, for parliamentarians working for sustainable development, human security and peace-building.
We are therefore inviting you to sign the below ‘Call for Action’ which will be used in communication with current and new potential donors.
I agree on the following key messages:
- I note the decline in democracy combined with a rise in armed violence and conflict implying that parliamentarians need to act globally.
- I acknowledge PFSALW as a highly relevant and useful organisation to support parliamentary work related to prevention and reduction of SALW-related armed violence, ultimately contributing to peaceful and sustainably developed societies.
- I encourage the donor community to consider investing in parliamentary organisations such as PFSALW, in order to achieve more peaceful and sustainable societies.

Watching the inbox fill up with your messages reminds me why I started this fight to protect the work of the Parliamentary Forum on Small Arms and Light Weapons. I am currently reaching out to key donors to explain why this organization remains a lynchpin for global stability. Your support proves that people everywhere recognize the urgent need to keep these channels for peace open.

Seeing this level of support reminds me that we are not alone in believing that parliamentary action is our best defense against the rising tide of violence. This momentum provides a much needed sense of hope for those of us who have spent years fighting for global security.

It is crazy that funding for something this important is at risk. Keep the pressure on.
Keep this going. Less guns mean safer communities for everyone. We need people speaking up against this violence.
Too much violence in the world right now. Politicians need to work together more than ever to fix this mess.
We need these parliamentarians to stay focused on reducing gun violence. Global issues require global cooperation and this group is essential.
Support this cause. We need peace not more weapons.
