The potential issues and problems are well stated in the text of the Call for Action. Placement of a homeless camp in the proposed location without public notification and adequate opportunity for discussion by affected homeowners, businesses and parents would on it's face appear to be irresponsible. This proposal warrants involvement by stakeholders. Approval at this stage of action is premature and inappropriate.

A very bad idea ,it won't work ,too many problems in this part of Lahaina already due to the lack of a real solution i e why are so many disaffected human beings just dumped on Maui in the first place?

A big problem here in Lahaina .The proposal is ill thought out ,very unwelcome by present homeowners ,and will not be successful if passed .location is everything ..this is NOT the right one for those with such complex social problems

OBVIOUSLY ,HOMELESSNESS IN LAHAINA IS A PROBLEM FOR ALL OF US .THE PROPOSAL TO HAVE A CAMPSITE IS SOLELY BASED ON THE FACT THAT THE LAND HAS BEEN DONATED ,NOT THAT IT ITHE RIGHT LOCATION .
A LONG ,HOT WALK TO ANY FACILITIES , NO SAFE PLACE TO CROSS THE VERY BUSY HIGHWAY ,UNSAFE DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER ,AS WAS OBVIOUS JUST LAST YEAR AFTER HEAVY RAINFALL .

I oppose the homeless camp, until this proposal can be studied and debated by all impacted parties.

Please do NOT put the homeless in a residential area. Puamana property is very costly and it would reduce its value emmensly. I am an owner in Puamana. Thank you.

this is wrong on so many levels. Wrong for the local property owners and renters alike. Who benefits?

Please do not allow this. An area such as this should be placed where there are services provided that are in close proximity. Not a residential area.

Aloha Maui community members. My name is Lisa Darcy and I am the Executive Director at Ho`omoana. Our Foundation has been working tirelessly for over 6 years to address critical community housing issues. We have asked for community assistance and been to almost every Maui Homeless Alliance meeting to address solutions and needs. I am most grateful for all this interest as I have not seen one petition individual at any of our meetings. The project Ho`omoana is initiating is not being accurately reflected above. It is a project which has no equal. The Maui community needs accurate dissemination of information, not stigmatizing propaganda. Please go to the Ho'omoana website www.hoomoanafoundation.org and click on the Kauaula tab. There is a presentation which provides an outline for review. With deep appreciation for everyone's care and concern, Lisa Darcy

I am against this project as it will diminish the value of surrounding properties.

i was more than a little surprised to receive information stating this project was so close to our Puamana home -- and so close to being finalized and presented for approval. As direct neighbors, our community and many of the TVR rentals would be impacted. It is also feared that the aina itself would be negatively impacted. I urge you to seek and review alternative facilities for the disenfranchised; an examine the goals of the property owners more carefully.

I oppose the homeless campsite. I live in puamana directly across from proposed site.

I am against the proposed homeless camp. I live in puamana directly across from bypass intersection where the proposed camp will be. I feel it will negatively impact our quality of life & property values & safety as well as reasons outlined in petition. thank you

This is a serious mis-direction of good intentions in the effort to help individuals recover from homelessness.
With due consideration by all stakeholders a better solution can be found.

I believe this camp site next to a highway and near an already existing community will endanger both the homeless and those already living in the surrounding area. Many of these people are homeless due to substance abuse problems & continued substance abuse could put local families in the area in danger.

Believe it would be better to spend this time & energy on expanding and improving the homeless facility that is already in place behind the Lahaina Aquatic Center.
