Ridiculous to put a homeless /tent Community so close to facilities that children after school. This is walking distance to the boy's and girl's club, an elementary school and a public pool used by many. Without faculties, homeless have been showering at the pool. Homeless who are not on drugs can get into the shelter. So it seems this is catering to those that are not ready to transition into a real home. This certainly isn't a place to put close to our children. SIGNED AND GOING

I completely disagree with the proposal to have a homeless 'tent city'. This is not a way to encourage people to aim towards standing on their own two feet and making something of themselves. It will also become known on other islands and the mainland and will encourage people to come here without much money. The health hazards are phenomenal. Etc, etc, etc.

i don't think it a good idea at all. Look at Oahu and homeless people camping in the parks there. It's dirty and scary to walk by.
They are always fighting.. Do you want this in Lahaina?

Here's a thought, there are dorms sitting vacant and beginning to show signs of neglect and in need of basic repair over by Maui Community College. I believe it once was used in their Hospitality Training Program, you can see them as you drive towards Wailuku. Why can't the county offer to place people or families who need housing there? I'm sure there are many people who would be able to work for their rent by handling the maintenance needs or landscaping as a way to keep these building up to par, better than leaving them in a tent somewhere.

We need a solution to the homeless in Lahaina who are addicted to drugs and do not want to stop using.

This is a really bad idea- 1) what tourist are going to want to camp next to homeless 2) you have to get them off of all "substances" 3) eyesore as you come into Lahaina.

I have a business on Prison st and I was almost attacked at night inside my business by a homeless man a few months ago. There was a huge human feces on the sidewalk at Front St and Prison St a week ago. There is already a homeless problem in Lahaina. We don't need to make it a bigger problem. We need the homeless men far away from schools, businesses, tourists. It's a terrible idea to have a homeless camp in or near town. Crime will increase, it will hurt tourism, it will be bad for our economy.

I understand the idea of putting it off for a year until a suitable site that is NOT in somebody's backyard comes up....NO one has suggested a temporary location for the next year? where should we suggest to Homeless tent dwellers to live, thats convienient to shopping and medical services and running water? Why do Maui Residents want to sweep our Homeless problem under the rug? and hide it from the tourists like the unwanted step child...ignore it for another year ? I feel temporary homeless camps should be allowed in Multiple state land sites that have water access. Im for eminent Domain by state or county to seize vacant land for this purpose, with user's all being registered and agree to terms and conditions.

This is a shove to try and get a tax write off (again!!!!!) for Martin. The land is totally arid, and there are no facilities or transportation services. There are already too many fires from the homeless in the area and too many criminal activities as well. Clean it up--don't make it worse.
