There should be no extension of Diablo Canyon's reactor operating licenses, and a facility must be built (since the spent fuel pool building has already been destroyed) in order to extremely carefully re-package the spent fuel rod assemblies at San Onofre to move that hot waste at least somewhat further from the advancing ocean tides.

Where are you, Gov. Newsome? We need you, your office, and our state legislators to wake up!

I live in Pismo Beach and it's dangerous here, too. Do the smart thing and move the waste to higher ground. Thank you.

Shut down all nuclear power plants ASAP! Store nuclear waste as safely as possible. Tax utility profits of NPP owners in the State.

The DOE and Congress have failed to act. They are stalling and wasting time on the Consent based program, which is designed to foist our waste on other communities. This would require the moving the waste multiple times, retrofitting our rail, roads and bridges. Their timeline shows 2033 before any waste can be transported, which is impossible in its present state. There is literally "No Time to Waste"

This is a crisis waiting to happen and must be addressed now.

I strongly OPPOSE nuclear energy because the short-run and the long-run dangers are far too great.

Storing radioactive waste in metal canisters only 100ft from crashing waves is putting all Californians at dire risk. This issue must be pushed to the top of every legislator’s list of priorities.

We should never allow nuclear if there is not a safe, environmentally sound exit plan this causes cancer, and harm to so many people throughout the world

As has happened before, regulatory agencies are leaving the safety and health of the public to chance. "Feeling lucky" must have no place in the decisions regarding safe storage of nuclear waste. This is an urgent problem and must be treated as such.

We can't possibly wait til 2035 to re-evaluate sea level rise ! Recent photos of King Tides (January 2024) provide evidence that seawall height is totally insufficient to provide the necessary flood protection. Photos also prove the SCE 'band-aid" caulk repairs of seawall surfaces are quickly degraded, and are insufficient as a realistic contingency plan. It doesn't measure up to the safety level mandated by law, or SCE assurances. It;s a joke, or more like a scandal, and is already a foreseeable hazard and imminent threat The nuclear industry is making decisions based on "commercially reasonable solutions". It is time for us to take control of how our decommissioning funds are being spent. Regulators, licensing agencies, and funding controllers must live up to assurances that ISFSI casks will be readily retrievable, contingency plans will protect residents, dry storage casks will be durable, provide adequate flood protection. The best solution would be a wise investment! Concerned and informed members of the public will not accept excuses, or more BS from nuclear industry, consultants, contractors and CEP.
