California Legislators: Oppose Assembly Bill 84

Hi, my name is Kazreen, and I’m homeschooled by my mother, but that could come to an end if AB84 gets past! Homeschooling means the world to me, i get to do so many things such as visiting other countries, learn at my own pace, and chose how I want to learn!

If the proposed funding cuts and restrictions move forward, students who depend on nontraditional learning environments like charter schools will lose vital opportunities. These are often students with special needs or unique learning styles who haven’t thrived in traditional public schools. Charter schools provide them with the flexibility, creativity and personalized support they need to succeed. But under AB84, increased regulations and financial penalties would strip these schools of the very tools that make them effective. Resources would be stretched thin not for the benefit of students but to cover new layers of administrative burden. Instead of investing in classrooms, teachers and individualized support, funds could be diverted to red tape. Families choose charter schools because they offer something different, something that works when other systems haven’t. If AB84 passes, we risk taking those choices away and leaving the most vulnerable students behind. Our education system should be expanding options not narrowing them.

I'm a mother that is currently homeschooling my child. I refuse to put her into public school. We don't do vaccines and that has a lot to do with why I homeschool. Homeschooling is the best option for my family and I. We work hard on assignments and projects for school. The home school we attend is amazing and does everything they can to help us progress in every subject. Please don't take from what little we have. We work hard to help our children to meet the standards and I am more than grateful for our charter school. We are blessed. Please let us continue to teach our children all they need to know with the resources we have. Thank you for your time.

Oppose! My children learn better in charter & at home. We are learning piano & secondary language all of which we can not afford out of pocket. Charter is best.

To those who are in the public and against charter schools and want stricter policy I would encourage you to please have a open mind and heart and speak to the families who have completed their charter school education with their children and to those families who are still in it. To compare your thoughts, experiences , and the opportunities offered. How their particular Charter assists them and their children, how much are they allowed for funds, how the funds are recieved and what do the funds cover? In fact upon that question I would guess most public school families have no idea how much their individual student gets in funds for the year and what those funds go towards specifically for their child only and if their public school would be willing to give them a breakdown? I do not attempt to ask the political parties involved to ask these questions or make these comparisons Because they already know the answers. Ask yourselves why they are so determined to have control and power over these few families and charter schools compared to the vast majority who still attend public school in their communities. Why the concern ? Is it really genuine or are their other motives and reasons? My family has always been in the public school system, we all grew up going to the same schools, all my friends as well and the new ones I meet along life. My own kids have been in public school, private school and charter school. I personally always thought homeschoolers were strange and it was just too different but I was just ignorant. Especially with how the charter schools operate , they are organized and our children are offered so many more opportunities than ever before. If anything , it’s criminal of the public schools hindering students from achieving much bigger possibilities and futures. My 12th grader in high school is graduating from her charter as a senior with 5 AA degrees and is upon completion of her general education for university which means she’s cutting two

I OPPOSE THIS BILL! Elected leaders in the legislature are already too beholden to monied interests which drown out the voices of the middle and working class.

I am a CDP delegate, regular member of the LACDP Central Committee. I strongly oppose AB 84. I volunteer for this party and my voice should be heard, not taken away by elected Democrats and corporations.

This is most certainly tone deaf and yet another sign the Dems are setting themselves up for failure. I say to the Establishment Dems, look around you and understand the times we are in. Everything suggests that a move like this will surely kill the spirit of the party entirely. People will come to you, But only if you show real strength, courage and boldness and actually start helping the working stiffs in this country.
