We have the same problem with our property in Columshill place.Ridiculous that the Council would rather have unsighltly old windows,rather than Brand new double glazed windows.

I think the decision made by A&B council is ridiculous. Here is someone trying to do his best to provide quality accomodation on the island, which necesitates having energy efficient properties like double glazed windows. No one wants to stay in a cold, draughty hotel room. looking around Guildford Sqaure there are plenty of other UPVC windows about so whats the problem with Bute House Hotel having them? I am sure that the owners would make sure that any new windows installed were sympathetic to the surroundings. I hope that A&B council will reconsider thier decision.

To think of the millions of pounds being spent on upgrading inefficient boilers to reduce carbon footprint and here is a company willing to upgrade it's property to make it more efficient. I agree double glazing should be allowed but I also think it should be done sympathetically so as not to take the look off these wonderful buildings that infact attract the visitors in the first place.

It is important that people maintain the property then own.I see no good reason to deny anyone the right to impove and upgrade.We need only look at the royal hotel on the front to see what happens to bulidings when they are not properly cared for.

The Isle of Bute is so important to residents and visitors alike. Please allow improvements to the infrastucture and this includes broadband!

New windows will not affect the look of the building, but will enhance the stay of the guests visiting Rothesay. Bute needs visitors and their comfort is important - I know I frequently visit and new window make a difference particularly in the winter and if you usually live in a warmer climate.

Why must everyone that wants to invest in their properties go through the same song and dance routine? I am for sensible conservation, but this has become such a one-sided process, preventing any improvements and is killing vital investment in our local community.

I back this cause. Rothesay town centre is struggling. The new window would not detract from the building but enhance it.

Harry & Hazel need to be supported not held back, they are trying to encourage people to come and holiday in Rothesay. Lets face it Rothesay is in decline and needs all the help it can get. There are different windows all over Rothesay, Why are some allowed and some are not.? The council need to back this couple, or the Bute Hotel may end up like the Royal, unloved and abandoned.

I too am a staunch supporter of maintaining the integrity of the architecture, however common sense has to prevail. The square is in a terrible state, although the THI is doing great works to improve it. UPVC on this building will not detract it will enhance in this instance.

conservation has a relevancy, however private funding, entrepreurship and small businesses are more relevant on an island struggling to maintain its economy. Upvc is not unusual nor unattractive, they are economic, clean and aesthtically unoffensive in a commercial setting. support the Bute House Hotel.

Rothesay is being allowed to crumble and decay. Whilst I am a staunch supporter of maintaining the integrity of the architecture, there has to be sympathetic compromises to literally save buildings from demolition. On a recent visit to Tobermory, the stark contrast with a shabby Rothesay was evident and puzzling. Having said that, it does seem to be possible to install compliant wood (or UPVC) sash windows with double glazing. Check out http://www.slimliteglass.co.uk/

The hotel was my "hard to heat" home in the 60's. Please go for the UPVC windows, but do get the curved corner ones right. New wooden windows now will have to be changed for upvc later anyway. This is 2014 and Rothesay is not Brigadoon.

Grants to temporarily patch up old wooden windows versus the installation of double glazed, fit for purpose, maintenance free, smart pvc windows. Only the public bodies that consistently fail this island could believe the grants solution is right.

I think that as long as the proposed windows have similar appearance to some of the surrounding windows it will be fine. If they look like most of the surrounding windows it will highlight how bad they are.
