Dear Edina Residents,

Year after year, our community faces power outages caused by wind, storms, and the increasing strain on our aging electrical infrastructure. These outages, which often last for hours or even days, bring significant costs and challenges to our daily lives. Spoiled food, disruptions to heating and cooling systems, and interrupted workdays are just a few of the frustrations we endure. For many of us who work from home, these power interruptions mean lost productivity, missed meetings, communication breakdowns, and lost revenue.

As residents of Edina, we pay some of the highest property taxes in the state of Minnesota. It’s time that our elected officials take this problem seriously and take action. We need a comprehensive, multi-year plan to address the ongoing issue of power outages by burying power lines and upgrading our electrical system.

We propose starting in the neighborhoods most affected by these outages and continuing the work year after year until the majority of our power lines are buried. With the growing adoption of electric vehicles, powerful computers, and other electronics, combined with the phasing out of gas appliances, our electrical demands will only increase. If we don’t address this issue now, it will only get worse.

We urge the Edina City Council and Xcel Energy to take immediate action to fix this problem once and for all. Let’s work together to ensure a more reliable, resilient, and future-proof electrical system for our community.

Sign this petition to demand that our city leaders and power company make this critical investment in Edina’s future.

We no longer live in Edina but when we did, our power was knocked out regularly. It was very frustrating and inconvenient. This shouldn’t be a problem in this day and age.

I’ve lived in this community 24 years and have never lost power so many times as we have this summer…..it has been so incredibly frustrating!

Do NOT raise property taxes to pay for this. We already pay enough to expect less disruptions.

I support a genuine consideration of such a project, including a view on its costs and funding model.

Power outages after majority of large storms creates overhead for workers and headaches for families. Why is edina so far behind in such logical thinking?

Please bury all electrical power lines in Edina. It’s a great burden and it will cost effective in the long term.
