Please help to put pressure our leaders in metro Atlanta to build a mass transit system that serves the entire Atlanta metro region. Atlanta is a metropolitan area full of transplants like myself who have lived in an area that has a reliable mass transit systems. We would like to see the same here. This would include expanding the current Marta Rail system that could be built parallel to the major interstates routes such as I75 - I85 and if possible create a suburban commuter rail system to help get people out of their cars. Transit buses from suburban neighborhoods would feed into the rail stations which would help relieve some of the gridlock that continues plaque the region! The past traffic congestion during our recent storm is a prefect example why this region needs to have a proper transit system. This has to be an Atlanta metro issue and not one that requires the entire state to participate in. If we one to be compared to the great cities such as Washington,DC, Chicago, San Fran and New York we have to get get on their level when it comes to moving its residence throughout the region. This would encourage major corporations to want to establish offices throughout the metro region to come here which would create more jobs. Downtown, Midtown, Highland Ave, Inman Park would develop more life by opening nice cafe, retail shops and restaurants that you could just walk up and down too. Currently, this city doesn't have a main street where can just ride a train, get off to walk up and down. It seems every place you go to you have to be dependent on a car. Its time that we speak up! We need to let our voice be heard and this is the first staring point. Please join me in my effort to make a difference!
I am originally from NY, went to college in DC and have lived in Philadelphia for the last 13 years. I recently moved to atlanta 4 months ago. I live in Marietta and work in midtown. The traffic is unbelievable during rush hour and it's because everyone is forced to drive. Atlanta could decrease high way deaths and the amount of cars on the road if there was a mass transit system. I'm very disappointed that a major city such as Atlanta has not implemented this already.

MARTA could boost North Fulton growth!
Marta is talking about expanding up Ga 400! Great idea to get cars off of the road but Marta needs to also consider the other parts of the region particularly in area where the income levels are less. Expand up 1-85-75 across I-20 would also be a major move!

atlanta depends too much on independent on there own cars. it makes more sense to get a better transit system. history proves this it takes 2inchs of snow to cause over 900 car accidents in 1 day. GET WITH THE FUCKING PROGRAM AND BUILD A EXTENSIVE TRAIN SYSTEM. its simply that way kids wont get stuck in school buses for 8hrs in SEVERE WEATHER CONDITIONS OF 2INCHS OF SNOW. ........(sarcastic)

Unlike Boston and New York, with their long-established infrastructures and diverse mass transit systems, Atlanta resembles the new American city. Atlanta does have a commuter train system, but it doesn't serve the whole metro area. While the city has a workday population of 1 million, the metro area's population is 6 million. CNN
