We, current members of the Bryn Mawr College community, strongly urge the college administration to take immediate action in implementing Google Apps for Higher Education. A platform where students can take full advantage of advanced and powerful Google tools like; Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, Google Hangout, and many more! This will enable students, clubs, and campus communities to work collaboratively through a single real time online communication platform.

The Google system is already a very familiar communication platform among students. Many peer colleges have already made the switch to Google Apps for Higher Education, including Haverford, University of Pennsylvania, and other Ivy League schools.

We, the undersigned, believe that the current Zimbra system does not fully protect our information and privacy, nor do we believe the system is user-friendly and lives up to the current technological needs of the student body. Furthermore, Google Apps for Higher Education is free and provides seamless implementation into the new system with technological support from Google.

Please sign the petition using your Bryn Mawr Zimbra account to confirm you are a Bryn Mawr community member supporting the upgrade. If you have any questions or would like to join our Bryn Mawr Go Google Task Force, please reach out to us at [email protected]

Sincerely,

Bryn Mawr Go Google Task Force

Updates

August 25, 2012

The task force has been reviewing the feedback regarding the limitations of our current email system. We are preparing a formal presentation for the administration to highlight the technical advantages and collaborative potential of the proposed transition.

August 25, 2012

The momentum behind this transition has reached a level that the administration can no longer ignore. It is clear that the college community prioritizes modern collaboration tools over the limitations of the current system.

Haverford has had this for ages. Bryn Mawr needs to keep up with the times.
