Bruce is an amazingly passionate teacher, adviser, mentor who cares and wants the best for each of his students. Being in his class elevated my entire experience at Pratt, and steered my design career here in New York City. Here's to you, Bruce!

I believe that past excellence of the Pratt ID department rested on the exceptional vision of singular minds: like Bruce, Rowena, Lenny, Alexander, Lucia, Rick, Fred, Martin, etc. I now believe that educational excellence is only possible when community comes first, I heartfullly support the nomination of Bruce Hannah as Professor Emeritus at Pratt.. He gave his being to everything Pratt ID.

Professor Bruce Hannah richly deserves this honor. Throughout his tenure and my 20+ years of knowing Bruce, he has always been wonderfully supportive of our students and faculty, and engaged in Institute endeavors with a spirit of collegiality. To illustrate my point, to allow a fellow faculty member access to the building now known as the Design Center., Bruce singlehandedly built a ramp leading from the main street on campus to the entrance of the building to allow a former fellow faculty member, who utilized a wheelchair, to gain access into the building. At that time it was the only historic building on campus to provide access for individuals with mobility issues. Bruce's original ramp was replaced with a concrete walkway just a few years ago.

Bruce has excelled as a designer a dedicated teacher and as a constructively critical and insightful voice part of an open academic dialogue. Most deserving.

Bruce was a true educator, and always will be. His teaching and vision always went beyond the classroom boundaries. It was a holistic learning experience for me to have had the chance to work with him at many levels. It would be a wonderful achievement for Pratt to be able to name Bruce as a Professor Emeritus.

Inarguably one of Pratt Institute's great treasures. Bruce has brought distinction to each of his many roles: student, alum, designer, department chair, faculty and critic; yes, critic, which any community needs more of, not less!

I can’t speak about Bruce as a teacher in terms of the word “was.” Bruce is a master educator who will always be beloved and respected by his students. He is unflinching in his desire to awaken the constructive potential in all of us. There is no half way about this man regarding the practice of teaching. His philosophy of design education is deceptively simple – students first, everything else is secondary.

I had Bruce for several courses during my time at Pratt. He always had a story to relate a problem to real life and of course knew someone in the industry of global status who could assist you on your journey. A great professor and friend, one who lets you find your own path while guiding you when needed. We all know the line, "mock it up before you fock it up." Bruce allowed you to fail and learn from it. It is all part of the design process. Bruce has earned the title of professor emeritus, not only for his long and diverse career at Pratt but also for his continued support to students who have grown and continued designing after Pratt.

Bruce was my furniture design teacher, his class was the best education experience while I was at Pratt Industrial Design. He is irreplaceable! Always brought best stories for students and very deserving of this recognition. BID 2014
