Brown University and PLoS ONE: Defend academic freedom and scientific inquiry

This is one of the worst cases of cowardly censorship I have seen--perhaps even worse than Bath Spa University's reprehensible decision regarding James Caspian.

Time to stop pandering to the mentally ill.

Political Correctness will hurt the people it's supposed to protect

This is important research that should not be repressed just because it hurts some people's internal feelings of gender. Children deserve better research begetting better medical care.

The sun does not revolve around the earth.

Dr. Litman's study does leave some questions unanswered. That is somewhat expected for a pioneering study on a new topic. As Dr. Litman states, more research on this topic is needed.

Lobbyists do not dictate academic research. This is a dark road we are heading down. The only people obsessed with censorship are those with something to hide.

I cannot believe I'm having to sign a petition to an organization of higher learning so that our basic human rights and freedom of speech are not violated. Stop pandering to whining mentally ill people who do not want to be healed. If transgender people were not concerned Dr Littman's research would prove them wrong, they would leave her alone. Take a stand against for the truth! Your university is being bullied and you are supporting them; even encouraging them by allowing them to control you and not supporting the essence if your very existence!

Academic freedom exists explicitly to protect professors who conduct politically unpopular research. Brown must defend its professor and PLoS ONE must defend their author if the principle of academic freedom is to have any meaning at all.

Truth matters.

As somebody who would like to do research on some "politically incorrect" topics in the future, it is unacceptable to me that an institution would treat a researcher this way.

This study needs to stay. As a clinician, I appreciate Dr. Littman's work and can attest to having similar cases in my practices for which this research helped provide additional insight and support. Please do not suppress information. There will always be the risk that some people will use research/evidence for nefarious reasons, but we ought not let those fears lead to censorship of research.

Evidence > Ideology

We are a progressive (liberal) family, who always vote democrat. We feel that the rapid onset gender dysphoria supporters are riding herd with the LGBTQ(...). Most lesbian/gay people are not necessarily pro transgender. To say that the LGBTQ group is an homogenous group is to miss the point. Also to say that gender critical parents are all right wing politically is dead wrong. Try having a transgender child and you’ll see. You might look into that. Thank you for your consideration.

Information is powerful. Do not suppress it. Informed citizens are needed for a harmonious and civilized society. Too many folks today deplateform and suppress opposing viewpoints because culture today has given in to "safe spaces" and identity politics. I'm only 23 years old and already I can see this. And also, why is there a sudden increase in kids being diagnosed with this gender id disorder. Have you ever read about suicide and anorexia copy cat/social contagion. Well, welcome to TransTrenders - copycat faddists. Some are just pure rebels against mainstream - like Goths, and others are kids with co-morbid personality disorders like Asbergers, who are misdiagnosed as having GID. Also, puberty anxiety - that is mistaken for GID. Lets stop running from hot topic debates.

Please don’t allow temporary political trends to remove the credibility of social science even further. Stand up for verifiable facts!
