Brown University and PLoS ONE: Defend academic freedom and scientific inquiry

It is astonishing that Brown has capitulated to a small antiscience group of zealots in shutting down academic freedom.

Science isn't about popular opinion - it's about truth. Publish the study and stand behind it!

It is important to support diverse viewpoints. It is important to discuss and dissect these positions. As an educator, it is your duty to defend these values.

I support objective research.

We can't attack a scientific study just because its conclusions aren't what we want to hear. The same people who deride the Catholic Church of Gallileo's day are ready to burn these scientists as heretics. If the study's methodology is sound, then there is no reason not to publish this and put it forward as the ground breaking research that it is.

Please never refuse a chance to learn

Thank you Dr Littman. My 19 year old son was given RX's by a nurse practitioner on his first visit to Planned Parenthood. He had a sudden complete change in personality and did not explore mental health issues. These kids/young adults need your voice.

Intersex children are now protected from transgendering as children in the UK. All children deserve this protection.

I am ashamed of my alma mater for this and previous craven transgressions of the holy rule of universities, to support the freedom to express differing opinions, however objectionable some might find them. Whatever happened to the unfettered search for truth?

We must defend the right to free inquiry in all Academic ventures- as to surrender this right will inevitably lead to "thought reform" which stands arbitrary to the concepts of a free democratic society and peoples.

Science should be based strictly on unbiased , peer reviewed research, not pressure from special interest groups.

Don't bow to pressure groups who want to silence legitimate research. It would set a terrible precedent. Their ire will move on soon enough. Hold tight.

Science before politics.

It is important that all sides be heard and considered equally.

Until you can change the XY chromosomes to XX or vice versa there can be no such thing as trans gender. As currently expressed it is a mental disorder.

Why is the education system even in the business of transgender matters. That is an issue for a patient and a psychologist/physician. There should be no mention of it or allusion to it in schools and no support groups or otherwise because it is not a matter that the education system should be involved. Yank it out of schools at all levels from K-12 through the universities and if someone wants to pursue an education in the field then let them have to hunt down the one or two universities in the world that teach it. What junk.
