Class of 2000, it's a shame that the black population of students has decreased to only 8%. I wonder if the reason for this is related to the behavior we are seeing from this generation of students.

Class of 2003 here. Racism is unacceptable, especially in a city like this, especially in a school like this. Do better.

I am from the era when Tech was much more diverse (in the 90's). I am so very saddened to know that my beloved Tech has regressed in 2016. The fact that I rarely (if ever) felt discriminated against while at Tech in the 90's, but today our black young people are being mistreated in those same halls, is beyond disappointing. Enough is enough!!

As a proud alumnus of this school, I'm heartbroken that Tech, once one of the most diverse and welcoming environments to get an education, has turned into a place where students of color are targets of hatred. Diversity and sensitivity trainings are bandaid measures that will not fix this issue alone. Recruiting and retaining teachers and administrators who will not stand for this is a step in the right direction.

My tech experience was academically challenging and filled with fun, fond memories. BTHS was a place in which the whole child was nurtured and well prepared for college. Issues that impede students from excelling both personally and intellectually, including racism, need to be documented and addressed accordingly. I am deeply saddened my alma mater (c.o. '81) is experiencing acts categorized as blatant racism. Ignorance should not find a home within that building. I support efforts to eradicate such offenses and those violating the rights of others.

Class of "03. My best friends were the kids in Gospel Choir and the stars of all of the SING plays. Obviously, we were all black. But I was able to maneuver through all groups of kids with true friendship and respect - the football team, the the Stage Crew, Horizons, the Goths, the Nerds, EVERYONE. No one was called the n word. You could date whoever you wanted. Also, the idea that racism would be perpetuated by teachers could not exist in a place like that. two of my strongest proponents were two white English teachers, one of which I still talk to today.
The state of my beloved HS is truly saddening. It must change, or generations of intelligent African America children may not be sen there.

Unfortunately, this is not going to come to an end until constructive diagloue is created and their are institutionalize policies put in place to develop a level of intolerance for microaggressions and hate speech/racial slurs. I stand in solidarity with Brooklyn Tech students as a former Brooklyn resident, and a current diversity and inclusion advocate.

Not too long ago, Brooklyn Tech was a boys only school and women were denied an opportunity to attend. Are we now reverting to discrimination and/or creating a hostile environment for melanated persons? Get it together BTHS!!!
