Please don’t close this restaurant! It’s a valuable teaching tool for your students, and a wonderful addition to the college. We dined at Brookes while on a college visit to Oxford. Our experience there was quite nice, and left us with a very favorable impression of the education your students can expect to receive while at Brookes. It would be a shame to end that.

Organising our own event from start to finish in the restaurant was 100% the best part of my degree course. The restaurant as a training facility was one of the reasons I chose Oxford Brookes University. It would be a mistake to close Brookes Restaurant.

Shame on Oxford Brooke's, a vital part of my degree how do they expect students to complete their degree and gain the necessary experience without the ability to run events in the restaurant...

The value of this asset for integrating students into the hospitality industry cannot be understated. Without this part of their training and development they will fail to be prepared for the world in which they are about to enter. It will have a devastating impact on the credibility and reputation of the courses offered by the hospitality department.

I completed my degree here and as stated on this petition, it would not have been the same without the amazing experience in the restaurant and kitchen. How can you possibly expect young people to learn without this resource?!

We enjoy our visits to Brookes restaurant. Why close a resource which not only is a pleasurable experience, but an invaluable place of learning. I assumed this is what Brookes is for!

Absolute madness and unnecessary. The additional funding allocation from government for this 'teaching lab' was not replaced by the University or Faculty when HEFCE funding was removed and the £9000 fee was introduced. It has been a jewel in the crown of our International Hospitality Management degree for two decades. It has underpinned a capstone final year Events module for 20 years or more and its loss will diminish our student experience. To measure performance based on commercial metrics when it never has, nor could be, 'profitable' is idiotic.

I would say the most important aspects of my entire degree were the practical elements comprised of working at Brookes restaurant (& kitchen) and the placement year. Where will future hospitality students get that vital hands-on experience that Brookes restaurant provided us? From a public perspective, the restaurant is one of the only smart-casual eateries in the Headington area and the only decent sit-down restaurant at the university and its closure would surely be missed by local residents as well as students, lecturers, visiting families and friends. I believe a lot can be done to refurbish the place and more effectively market the place to encourage a larger number of people to dine there

This would be a massive loss to both the community and for all students studying hospitality at Brookes. The community will be losing a great restaurant with top notch service and fantastic food, while students will be denied a fantastic learning experience which will serve them throughout their career.
