Hello!
My name is Nicholas Nguyen and I am a current undergraduate student at George Washington University. As a Vietnamese-American, I find it very important that I preserve the Vietnamese culture and share it with as many people as possible. As a result, I am currently trying to bring Vietnamese language courses back to GW*. With these courses, not only would students learn the Vietnamese language but they would learn about the Vietnamese culture.
Speaking to the Department Chair of the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures at GW, it is possible to bring Vietnamese back to GW—about 10 years ago there were Vietnamese language courses but due to lack of interest and funding, GW got rid of the courses. However to bring Vietnamese courses back to GW, I need to demonstrate that there is interest in these courses were GW to offer them. As a result, I need your help: if you would take or would have taken Vietnamese language courses if GW offers them, please sign this petition, providing your full name and email. If I demonstrate to GW that there is substantial interest in Vietnamese language courses, then the chance that Vietnamese returns to GW increases. Your name and email will be kept private and the only way I will use them is for proof of an electronic signature (I will send your name and email to the Department Chair of the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures at GW).
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at [email protected] and I appreciate all of your help and interest in this matter.
Thank you very much and with your help we can bring back Vietnamese language courses to GW.
Sincerely,
Nicholas Nguyen
PLEASE WRITE YOUR EMAIL WITH YOUR FIRST AND LAST NAME WHEN YOU SIGN! THANKS!
*If Vietnamese language courses were to return to GW, they would most likely return in two years.
my parents came here from saigon and i never learned to speak it properly. would love to take this class if they finally bring it back to campus.
