Competition forces advancement, and even bigger than that, consumer demand forces advancement. Birmingham is behind the times without allowing ride sharing. The taxi service had it's chance, and it is behind. We want more, and expect more. The taxi services have not been willing to provide this, and now a competitor is arising.

Birmingham's taxis are an embarrassment to our city. If we want to keep attracting new residents and visitors they must improve. Uber and Lyft definitely will benefit the city in many ways.

In other southeastern cities I visit regularly (Nashville, Atlanta, New Orleans), cities that actually have acceptable cab services, Uber is always the preferred method of travel. I couldn't be more proud of how many forward strides my hometown of Birmingham has made in the past couple years, but senselessly precluding a transportation panacea from being able to conduct their business here will only show our tourists (and residents, for that matter) that we aren't willing to make the strides to improve our city. Get Uber/Lyft here, and get it here fast!

I have recently visited several other U.S. cities which utilize Uber & Lyft. Being able to use these services in other cities made it abundantly clear to me that Birmingham desperately needs these services. Adding Uber & Lyft will attract more visitors and make their time in Birmingham more enjoyable which is a very important consideration given the growth our city is currently experiencing.

Birmingham needs to stop living in the stone age and get with the times. People expect ridesharing outlets when they visit our city and they are unavailable.

The lack of ways to get around Birmingham is not only detrimental to the safety of everyone in Birmingham, it also makes out-of-towners laugh at how backwards this city is. I love Birmingham, but not having reliable ways to get around is a huge problem and one that is easily solved.
