I don't feel comfortable taking a cab home due to a few unfortunate experiences. Birmingham has progressed SO much in the past 5 years, Uber would make this city even greater than it already is.

Birmingham is the first city that has made me feel like I never have a safe ride home. I have been verbally abused by many taxis drivers here and taken advantage off (overcharged, taking the long way). In every other city I've been to with uber (15+), this has never occurred once.

It is impossible to get a cab in Birmingham. We need Uber/Lyft.

This will save lives by helping curtail drunk driving. Plus there is no reason not to have it other than the interests of Taxi companies.

Birmingham suffers from the perception that it is unwilling to embrace change, and shutting out new technologies and services that have been successfully adopted throughout the country only adds to that perception and hurts commerce at a time when Jefferson County needs every bit of commerce (and resulting tax revenue) it can get.

Upholding regulations that prohibit ride-sharing companies from operating in Birmingham--and in the name of safety(!)--is a gross misuse of power. Any elected official (read: Kim Rafferty) grossly misusing her power in such a way should be removed from office.

Uber is much safer than a taxi. Taxis have no paper trail - they can turn the meter off & there is no record of you being in their cab.

i can't believe that "safety" is one of the reasons for this woman to use against Uber. I feel infinitely safer in an uber than standing around downtown for hours waiting on the cab that doesn't exist. It's a joke we have to have a petition to sign to bring progress to our city.

With local transit as horrible as it is. Uber and other similar companies would be very helpful.

It is absurd we do not already have this. Our cab services are some of the worst in the country. This will be so helpful to the people of Birmingham

The authority of government is derived from the consent of the governed - what right has the government to deny its citizens a private service, when the government is supposed to be accountable to its citizens? It is absurdity.
