Bring the Waverley back to Helensburgh - Restore our pier!

Boarded the Waverley at Helensburgh pier many years ago. Disgraceful that it is in a state of disrepair

I think it’s so important for this to carry on as it’s not only important for the Waverly itself but also the tourist trade wishing Helensburgh. Both bits of Scotland’s heritage that go hand in hand together.

Bring it back remember being on it as a kid many times

The Waverley is a hugely important source of tourism for Helensburgh, a town steeped in history and ignored by the council

Well said, Ron. The pier will only be saved (and PS Waverley brought back to Helensburgh) if we can create a plan for the future involving a regenerated structure capable of catering for vessels of all sizes including kayaks and canoes, ribs, smaller sailing craft, cruise ship tenders (from Ocean Terminal, Greenock) and a possible ferry service calling at multiple stops on the River Clyde.

Not only affects the Waverley it affects other boats of all sizes

For years my Scottish family holiday has been arranged to give us at least one sail on the Waverley. Last week I saw the summer timetable which did include Helensburgh and we have booked our stay accordingly. Can the pier not be repaired?

The pier, The Waverley,Helensburgh, all interwoven into the lives of generations of all the surrounding communities on this part of the Clyde estuary, how can this be allowed to unravel? Disrespect our past and culture and we disrespect ourselves. The pier is literally our bridge between the past and the future. Some creative thinking needed here.

So Popular for locals and visitors alike. Good for community. Need to keep the pier repaired which will also keep the visitors coming

Helensburgh without the pier or The Waverley would be a disaster for the town.

It's ridiculous that they ever stopped this iconic steamer stopping in a world famous town in the first place. It is always very popular with locals and tourists and I as chairperson of Helensburgh and district branch of enable can speak for the adults with learning disabilities we attend every summer but now that it no longer stops in our town is impossible for us and the guys are very upset and disappointed about this.

The waverley and the pier are our heritage, they are treasures which we should hold on to. There are no other pleasure boats on the Clyde like the waverley. Our Clyde piers should be maintained. Both are great tourist attractions, let's not lose them.

I remember my trips on The Waverley as a boy and the excitement of going to Helensburgh pier and waiting.

It’s a disgrace that our so called local council have let Helensburgh pier get in to such a sorry sight, it’s one of the main attractions of the town and as usual Helensburgh is left having to fight for the upkeep, Also the huge loss of business for the town with the Waverley not being able 2 make its stops,
