Take a look at the state that other Clyde piers are in and ask yourself do you REALLY want our pier to go the same way? As for the Waverley, it's the one thing that friends from outside the area ask about doing when they come to visit - it'd be madness to let it go ...

If we lose the pier and we lose Waverley, we lose so much more than mere infrastructure and a visiting paddlesteamer. We have a monument on the seafront for the man credited with bringing tourists and their wallets to the town and yet the council thinks that eradicating one of our main attractions is worth it? With online shopping and out of town supermarkets and retail parks, we need every trick in the book to keep people coming to and staying in Helensburgh to support the local economy. Having the PS Waverley come to Helensburgh brings in business for shops, cafes, fast food outlets, restaurants, gift shops and beyond. I sailed on her last summer and my husband and I treated ourselves to a meal from one establishment and a couple of glasses of wine from another before boarding - something we would not have indulged in if it weren't for the special occasion of sailing on her from Helensburgh. As a photographer, I take photographs of iconic town scenes to turn into postcards - everyone wants one of the Waverley because she's a sight to behold and a joy to sail on - if Helensburgh loses her association with this vessel we lose a big chunk of our identity in the eyes of visitors and that can't be good for the town.

I feel sorry for those who have campaigned for years to save the pier and we’re not listened to. Now reality hits, the Waverley cannot dock and we all finally wake up! Let’s hope this new campaign makes a difference.

it would be nice if we could bring back some more clyde piers and reasblish the cruses and day trips doon the water with a few more ships
