The change in focus of the degree goes against the very nature of the course. Stop the capitalization of music and let the students pursue what aspect of the arts they want.

As a graduate of the UON Bachelor of Music in 2018, it is very disappointing to hear about the recent changes to the once great music degree. The music subjects should continue to form the core teaching areas of the degree, and not be swept aside for non music core subjects which could be offered as electives instead.

I agree it elementary that a music degree should be focused on music! It is unacceptable to ditch that halfway through a course

Changing a degree part way through like this is unconscionable given the amount of time, effort and money students invest in their future.

The music at the conservatorium is necessary! Not everything in life needs to be about profit.

This is appalling. How can UoN justify this change to syllabus mid degree. Students did NOT enrol in a Bachelor of Music to be forced to study and pay for vague design courses that a irrelevant to their chosen field Shame on UoN. Another example of profit over all else!!!

The conservatorium exists as a place where music is learnt and made. It must remain as such.

I completed my music degree with uon in 2020. I do not feel it was time or money well spent as I am currently seeking private tuition to full in the gaps in curriculum so I am fully prepared for my future as a teacher... Pedgogy was never run in my 3rd year and its a 3rd year course, one of the most beneficial courses in the degree. Another example is having to fight for a place in the concert hall for my final graduating recital, it was booked for a law lecture I feel very much let down by the university and I feel sorry for the lecturers there trying their best with all the road blocks.

As a graduate of the BMus at Newcastle I’m appalled at the degradation of what was once considered a fantastic course and the disregard for music as a valid area of study. I certainly feel for the current students and agree that the course options should be reinstated. They shouldn’t be forced to pay for something their didn’t sign up for.

It really is unacceptable for the University to be doing this. I have a son who is experiencing a similar issue at Southern Cross.

It is a shame that students who have elected to go to Newcastle uni are now being robbed of the education and subjects that they were expecting to do. It is bad enough that a few years ago the uni terminated amazing music teachers who were world renowned in regards to the instruments they taught, now you want to take more away. Where does it stop. I have heard that there will no longer be music exams at the Con. Is Newcastle uni also responsible for this? Is the future no Newcastle Conservatorium and no Bachelor of music?

I regarded this as a superior music course. Disappointing that I endorse a place to students who then find the experience lacking.
