It is unacceptable to change the focus of a degree once it has commenced. The UoN is facilitating the brain drain of Arts and Humanities students out of the Hunter which is incredibly sad.

The music degree that the students signed up for should be re-instated. If this is not possible then the students should be given the option to cease this degree and the HECS owed so far should not be charged to the respective students who were signed up.

Newcastle Conservatorium used to provide appropriate and stimulating Music Education Courses providing qualified Music Educators ready fir work in schools. Not now! They need to go to Sydney!

So saddening to see the University of Newcastle disregard and neglect fine art, drama and music, and arts subjects like classics and philosophy. Newcastle deserves better.

As a graduate from Newcastle in the mid 90s and Music educator. It is such a shame to see what has been slowly declining with the course. It is disappointing to see the quality came through the course before even further reductions. Newcastle Con is an amazing institution and there is so much potential to compete agains areas such as Sydney in offering courses being Music Industry and contemporary music studies.

These students have gone into a lot of HECS debt and now the degree they thought they were going to get has changed into cost cutting irrelevance. How is this even legal. Restore the degree into what it was or refund their HECS. The Newcastle Con has had a long history of culturally enriching the city. This is a absolute disgrace and very sad for our great city.

Heartbreaking to see good creative programs being demolished. I was involved in the Music Education program at the University and it relied heavily on good quality teaching from the Faculty of Music. It is not only happening to the music degree but also to the drama and fine arts areas.

I remember when the Conservatorium of Newcastle, it’s degrees and Early Childhood Music where significant cultural icons in Newcastle. The University of Newcastle have carelessly destroyed this .... and for what?

Newcastle Universities reputation is being destroyed by a bunch of philistines who appear to have no understanding of the importance of creativity.

The UON should deliver the courses that students had been advertised their degree would include.

Music has the power to unite the world so let’s remove it from our higher education system. A world without music is not a world but a silent space

Why would you continue to denigrate the value of all creative arts at This institution?

completely ridiculous. why does the arts have to be turned int entrepreneurship. They killed off fine arts and now doing the same to music? what gives?

Three uni had absolutely turned the music program and the Conservatorium into a joke. Completely ignored the talents of the existing musicians and music groups in favour of political programs as box ticking exercises for apparent inclusivity.

What has happened to Music and the Degree Course that was offered is scandalous. The same has happened to Fine Arts. The University has treated the Arts sector very badly. If they were able to look at the amazing successes of their Alumni in both areas they would see how the University shaped the careers of so many in the past, including many fine musicians and art graduates. The Director of the National Gallery in Canberra, Nick Mitzevich is a graduate of Newcastle University.
