If you read the Nov 27 press release, executed and distributed by the Section 1 Executive Office (http://athletics.swboces.org/), you won’t find one reason to support the move. Executive Director, Jennifer Simmons' quotes are laughable. The headline reads, “Pace University to Provide Affordable, Family Friendly Venue for 2018 Basketball Finals. Move Puts Popular Tournament in a More Convenient Central Location.” LMAO! The distance from County Center to Pace University is less than eight miles so we know that potential excuse is invalid. The County Center has always been a “Family Friendly” place for all and more than affordable. The press release gives absolutely no valid reason for the move and the Executive Committee continues to hide under a blanket of secrecy. In a great piece penned by Journal News/lohud sports journalists, Vince Mercogliano & Josh Thomson (http://www.lohud.com/story/sports/high-school/basketball/2017/12/01/county-center-exit-how/911081001/), Ms. Simmons suggests that the decision may have been made due to financial reasons. If so, why does she not divulge that to all? If the $10.00 parking fee, of which Section 1 receives no percentage and the cost of the required police presence, as stated, may be an issue why does she continue to hide under a cloud of suspicion? Last, I checked, Section 1 is a not-for-profit entity. They are there to serve US! The Journal News piece states that they netted approximately $20,000 from over $150,000 gross ticket sales at last year’s tournament. If they want to see more of a profit, they should find a great, business savvy person to negotiate a new contract with CC (no doubt, many business leaders in our community would do so at no charge)! This is not rocket science. Ms. Simmons’ total disregard and disrespect respect to her own committee members should be disturbing to all. The Section 1 Executive Committee needs to know, we will no longer stand for this nonsense! It’s about OUR student-athletes, OUR coaches,

I hope the Section 1 Exec Committee takes the time on January 3rd 2018 to reverse this decision( at least for the semi finals) and hears the voices and concerns of all players, coaches, basketball officials, AD’s, supportive superintendents and community members. Let’s start 2018 in a positive way. Use this as a teaching moment. We ask the Executive Committee to show courage, admit your mistake and make things right going forward.

This is a public event. The executive “committee” is in violation of their own constitution. They are being very shortsighted with the needs and safety of all concerned in this tournament.

Where are the people in favor of this awful decision? I have yet to hear one person come out and say thank God we are not playing the games at the County Center any longer

As a public school teacher, our principal always says “do everything in the best interest of the kids.” If there’s this much outcry to get it back to the CC from students, coaches, and parents, maybe we should listen?

I played at the county center as a Pv athlete and I have had county center as a goal since becoming a head varsity coach. Jen and those responsible are robbing athletes, coaches, families, and the basketball community of the ultimate goal and experience. Even those who do not make the final four look forward to attending and watching games. Shocked nothing has changed with all of the outrage, resignations, and now this petition. I am very thankful for all of the coaches that are fighting this on behalf of all athletes and coaches!
