Think it may be too late to reinstate Sam, however the school does require a child drop in counselling service on site. There are very few early intervention support services for young people beyond the walls of the school, referrals are very lengthy to the PCT mental health services and the mental health issues have to be acute, profound ie high level, before any referral would be made through a GP, and the reality is that young people do not generally go to GPs for health reasons voluntarily and there are barriers around organising appointment, transport, and not knowing a GP. Sam was in a perfect position to be that initial first line of support, early intervention is far more effective both for the emotional health of students and the cost effectiveness of health issues requiring outside support and or the criminal justice system to step in. However, the 'bigger picture' is often ignored due to a lack of joined up thinking and working in financial silos ie Chase had a debt therefore redundancies are enforced to cut that debt therefore cut the 'low hanging fruit' first. This is, in my opinion, is why Sam Morris is no longer at the Chase and I worry deeply for the well being of vulnerable pupils from all socio-economic backgrounds. Mental well being has a direct impact on academic success, so if our state school system's only narrative is one of academic results surely we are very short sighted if we don't take into account our children's social and emotional well being.

I think the comments shared by the Students speak of the great need to have someone like Sam in any school. Students welfare and safety is of such importance. Schools have always had people of skill in their particular field. Sam has that very unique skill which is so so important Thank you Connie for what you are doing on behalf of your fellow students and the School. James a School Governor.

Schools need to realise that their primary concern should be, not their pupils' grades, not the school budget, not even the children's education - their FIRST concern should be the emotional well-being of their pupils. This is because they play a significant role in founding the future maturity, wellbeing, outlook and pro-social behaviour of these future adults. Adolesence is reknowned as a difficult time to negotiate, and outside support is NECESSARILY needed as teenagers naturally loosen their ties with their parents. Schools play an important role in providing the responsible, caring adults outside the home that are needed to nurture maturity and wellbeing in young adults.

Sam, a true woman that shows pure dedication and pride in her to help support everyone around her, not just the students but their families also. My child is a former student, but when our family life was turned upside down, she was there and helped us every step of the way. The Chase were stupid to see her go! Such an amazing woman and most definitely deserves her job back.

It is so ridiculous that this school no longer has a councilor. I benefited from the service when I was a pupil here and it should return that way.

A school councillor at a school the size of the chase. Agter the incident at the school on monday it clearly shows that sam morrie was an expremley valuable member of staff .

excellent point - the 6th form has served our family well, but recent changes and attitudes at the school mean we will now be considering alternatives.

Sam is an amazing women who has helped so many students at The Chase and she gave them someone to talk to when they were going through tough times or needed someone to talk to. I think The Chase was completely in the wrong getting rid of her to save some money even though they knew what an impact that would have on the students.
