Clarence Gibson, saved my life and gave me a chance when no one else wanted too. He’s an excellent educator , teacher and band director who’s VERY Passionate about his craft and what he does ! He does his job which such fidelity ! Always make a way with no way when there’s a way he finds it !!!

Bring the legend “Gibson” back to the “Ocean of Soul”. He is the heartbeat of the ocean of soul marching band program. Think about Recruitment, Arrangements, Time and Effort that he has put in the program since he was an assistant band director, the powerful summer band and camps he started at Texas Southern, the relationships he has made for the program, and etc. Me personally I never wanted to go to Texas Southern University til I heard a video clip of them in 2005 playing “That’s so Raven”, “Ring my bell”, “Liberian Girl” etc. then after Hurricane Katrina he got all them New Orleans students in the band and it was a wrap! He taps in to different city’s that no other directors even goes too. When I was in the band it was nothing but New Orleans, Mississippi, Memphis, and Houston students in the band and a few of us Dallas students in the band. I crabbed Fall 2006 in the Ocean of Soul “Funk Train” and marched to Spring 2009. I remember doing band camps at Townview High school in Dallas, Texas with Prof. D and Prof Gibson. No one was coming to Dallas to do camps. And being we don’t have a HBCU here in Dallas, Texas Southern was one of the only universities here doing that. This man deserves to be back in front of the most exciting band on the planet. Hopefully Dr. Lane you will realize he is the perfect Director for the program and students. He can relate to the students and mentor etc. We can’t let him get away!

As a former student of Prof. Gip and alumni member of the Ocean I have witnessed 1st hand how much he cares for each and every one of his students. This is very disheartening to hear.
