I think the principle should resign. How can someone be fired for helping another person?

As a retired teacher, and understanding that all districts have rules regarding behavior, in this case it seems that the district showed poor judgment in firing the teacher. I do not believe the district's claim that they did not force the resignation.

Sad that the principal and the Board she teaches for do not recognize that they have just lost a 'gem' of a teacher. A teacher who not only shows compassion but goes the extra mile. The principal and Board are not in the right profession...they are only concerned with legalities. They should not be able to get away with bullying her. This teacher ought to be reinstated immediately. Praise God that we have caring teachers like Ms. Mitts!

If she had permission from the students parents the first time and the student was 20 yrs old the second time, what is the issue exactly? We are not talking about taking a 7 y/o without notiftying the parents and/or making any medical decisions for a minor child... We are talking about saving lives.

Leslie Mitts deserves a BETTER teaching position than Red Bank High School, I think "Principal" is more appropriate!

Nice to see that angels exist. School direction should be fired for incompetence.

Shame on you being willing to lose a teacher that really cares about her students... so many and you penalize her!

This old combat veteran hope that common sense and decency will return to my state (TN) some day. Stop electing and supporting evil, unqualified people for positions of authority!

Are you serious?!? So, when is not right to do the right thing. I applaud Ms. Mitt for showing humanity to a young adult that needed it. What if the student didn't get medical attention? What do you think could have happened? Principal Roberts you need more teachers like Ms. Mitts that not only took a seriously ill student to the hospital, but paid for the medical expenses out of her own pocket. I hope this puts enough pressure on you Principal Roberts where you are forced to resign!
