We should be rewarding people who take care of others when it's the right thing to do, NOT firing them! I hope that she is hired by a school district that will treat her RIGHT.

I can't believe in a time when everyone is so self centered that we would punish an act of generosity.

school need more teachers who actually care.

I doubt she left others unattended while taking an adult student to the ER. And paying out of her pocket -- "No good deed goes unpunished" must be her school's motto. Ridiculous. If she's there FOURTEEN years, she's a seasoned teacher who'd know when it was appropriate to leave.

I can't believe we've come to this as a society. So afraid of lawsuits that we punish people who go out of their way to help others. Disgraceful

A teacher with this kind of dedication and compassion is a rare commodity. She shouldn't be condemned, she should be applauded. The school board should be ashamed of themselves, they've shown the world that the care of a child is not their main concern. This story has now spread to the UK and here in Canada. God Bless Miss Mitts and I would be honored to have just one teacher like you watching over my child, rather than a hundred Justin Robertson's. Do the RIGHT thing Red Bank High School Administration, show your students that your true concern is their well being, not lawyers and liability.

So many people in management positions, including CEOs and billionaires, have NO compassion for anyone else.

One definition of fascism is: valuing rules more than human beings. This teacher deserves to be commended for her care and concern, not threatened and dismissed. The administration at Red Bank should be doing everything they can to HOLD ONTO teachers like Miss Mitts, rather than dismissing her. Teachers like Miss Mitts, who care about their students, can have a lifelong impact on the kids they teach. Reinstate her!!

I do not understand what the grounds for her being fired were. Being nice? Caring? Helping people in need? I do not understand what is wrong with the school systems these days. Has everyone lost their mind.

What was that school system thinking? To have a wonderful person that cares for her students that much.... All I can say is every person on that school board needs to be fired and people with a heart elected for the board.

This is the exact opposite of how things should work. People should be rewarded for helping each other out and punished for selfishly worrying about their own "liability."

A good deed goes punished for something that the school nurse should have done. What's wrong with this world we live in if a good person does something and the person is punished for it. You should immediately apologize and reinstate her and maybe give her a raise.

We need more teachers like her in ALL educational systems. Teachers don't just teach the curriculum, they also teach by example. I hope that things turn for the best for Miss Mitts real soon.

We need more people like Mitts and less people like the head of the school.
