FIRE THE PRINCIPAL. They don't know how to deal with compassion or kindness and may I also add BULLYING. Due to Mitts being fired this is teaching the children NOT to be kind to others as it may result in disaster. Is that what this school is teaching their students? OUTRAGEOUS !!!!

How in the name of all that's holy can a community stand behind this officials statement “It’s a liability issue,” said Stewart. “It’s an issue of insubordination after doing something you were officially warned not to do and doing it again.”

HR people are so useless. man, sit on your ass 6 hours out of every workday, recite mealy-mouthed "policy" statements when anything goes wrong, and get paid for it. those of us who actually do something productive for a living are SO in the wrong business.

So helping people and saving lives is less important than riding herd on young adults? Ooooh. They may have a little problem.

We shouldn't live in a world where people are punished for their compassion.

If Miss Mitts had not taken these students to the hospital the School Board would likely be negligent of an offence including " breaching a duty of care which would subject an individual to liability. In this case subject the school board to liability. The Tennessee Court of Appeal has also recently followed the California Supreme Court's lead by citing Cabral for the proposition that duty determinations must be made at the highest level of factual generality

From my understanding, Ms Mitts paid for this out of her own pocket, not with school board funds, and took personal liability for her actions. Principal Roberts, you should hope that, should you ever be ill or injured, there will be someone like this teacher who is willing to stick her neck out to ensure you get the care you need. This teacher needs to be rehired immediately and rewarded, not reprimanded.

This is ridiculous. Clearly the school did not have a policy in place on how to get sick kids to the hospital, and the teacher improvised. Had there been a policy where the school nurse could call an ambulance, then I'm sure the teacher would have followed it.

The school administration earns a big fat "F" on this one. If something like this has happened before, why didn't the principal put in place an official quick and easy response protocol fir dealing with sick students who need medical care? The needs of sick students should be placed above the needs of administrators.

It is disgusting to see how low humanity can go.

The the way this woman has been treated is vomit inducing. She was looking out for the welfare of the children she is responsible for and should be commended for being willing to go above and beyond by actually paying the cost of some of these unfortunate children. The principal of that school should be shamed and then swiftly fired.

fired for being compassionate and caring!! People like this are far too hard to find - she's an example to her students of what type of person they should aim to be in life. This goes beyond ridicilous. Seems the school board is too cheap to invest in better insurance coverage for the teachers - or at least source out a plan and let it be the teachers choice to opt in, in case they find themselves in the same situation. I would have done exactly what she did!

What else could one expect from a Republican state --- no compassion for people (ill students) and no common sense or concern for the educational well being of its students.
