Regulations and policies are in place to clarify and define responsibility. Yet, the deeper reason for them is fear lawsuits. Lawyers have become our handlers. A sad state of affairs.

Common sense seems to be dead in this Tennesse school.

The person that fired her needs to be fired and Mitts should replace that person.

What is it with school administrators making idiotic decisions? It seems to be an epidemic lately. The administrator is the one who should be forced to resign.

I'm a 2004 graduate living in Europe and heard of this story online. The link said ''Tennessee Teacher'' and I clicked on it hoping that it wasn't Chattanooga....but to my disgust, it was not only Hamilton County, but my own alma mater.

As an ER physician I applaud Ms Mitts for doing the right thing.

Miss Mitts, best of luck to you. A thorough reading of all of the back-story makes it clear that you are the type of person and teacher that we all wish was helping our own children, at school and elsewhere. You did an heroic act. I look forward to seeing your story on 20/20.You also have some amazing friends/sisters who obviously love you very much!

This is why we can't have nice things, Chattanooga. First, Miss Mitts, I obviously speak for everybody but two people when I say this is some amazing work. I'll be blogging about this later, but let me say this now. How does this H.R. lady say these things and look in the mirror. Hey, this lady was insubordinate and should be in trouble. Oh why? Because she keeps doing the right thing when our insurance provider clearly doesn't want a part of this. You and the principal need to sit in the damn corner and think about what you just did.

It's a sad day when a teacher who cares so much for her students is forced to resign for footing the bill to get a student proper medical treatment! The principal, other staff at the school, the Superintendant and the entire school district should be hanging their heads in shame! They took a teacher who cared about her students from the students. It's very obvious the students care for her as well! So instead of giving tees students a good, high quality education, they are now learning absolutely nothing and having movies played in place of proper teaching. This is a complete injustice to these students! They deserve so much better! I hope those involved in this decision are fired themselves for outright stupidity!

I think you should be thoroughly ashamed of yourselves. This is a shocking story.

This is total BS. Any school adminstrator that fires (or fires under the guise of resigning as in this case) a teacher who cares this much about her students shpould themselves be fires. Stacey Stweart is a weasel, does she relly think that anyone would think that this teacher left of her own accord? Can her and give her job to Ms. Mitts . . or better yet, give her Robertsons job. That AH doesn't have a clue. Ms. Mitts obviously cares more about the students that dolt, and thats what it takes to be a good eduator. That school board needs to clean house!

I hope one day my child has a teacher that cares this much.
