myspace never gave us this problem! the internet has always had an air of anonymity and in this day and age that has not changed. if i want my name on facebook to be something other than what is my true name, then that is my choice. how is facebook supposed to verify that my name isnt my name anyway? what processes are taken to verify someone's actual identity? why does it even matter when it never made a difference before? there are many people who use fake names to protect themselves from whatever the case may be, so the decision to take away a profile based off a non legal profile name is just ludicrous as everyone has a different situation or reason why they chose the name they did. not to mention those of us who are a part of the LGBTQ community who happen to be performers or just someone who is making a profile reflecting and identifying who they truly are, maybe they are unable to legally change their name at the time of creating a profile. like i mentioned, everyone's story is different, its completely unjust to harass, remove, or question someone's name on their facebook profile simply because of the name they decided on using as we have the freedom to express ourselves as we choose, and considering the problem resides with having a "legal name" on facebook, to remove or threaten to remove someones profile for that reason is very reaching. if the government is wanting to confirm our legal name with our online postings, then be honest about it because i am not even sure nor has it been made clear who is in charge or what is the process of verifying someone's legal name. i could make up a very convincing fake name for my profile on facebook, how would admins be able to confirm or deny? the limitation is just ridiculous.

I must say that blackballing "Granny Goodwich" for her pseudonym seems like cruel overreaching to me.
Can't we use a little common sense here?

Personally i think it is wrong for any social network to demand that anybody be forced to use their actual names on any profile. this can lead to stalkers who can now find out exactly who we are and where to find us and puts our lives in danger... If we are not harming anyone and Granny Goodwitch most certainly isn't, why does anyone care what name we choose to go by. FB should have no legal right to demand that we give up personal information to the entire world..

This IS her name! I disagree with the policy completely believing everyone should have the right to anonymity on the web unless they are doing wrong, but in this case it is indeed the name she is known by and as said in the petition text, she gets federal mail under that name.
