As a teacher with over 30-years experience at all levels from elementary through university, I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to rethink the K12 curriculum. Students MUST learn to THINK rather than regurgitate. They need challenging tasks with no clear solution that require logic and creativity.

It's about time we make changes to the math curriculum.

Outside of the US, maths courses follow a different path that has a little bit better logic; however, it is also stagnant. If we do it here, more countries will follow. If we don’t do it here, other countries will continue to do it on their own and, thus, having an advantage over our kids.

Math is much more than numbers

It is time to teach mathematics and NOT computation! Our kids deserve better, our teachers need better, our world must have better!

As a statistician and college professor with 25 years of experience built on a BS in math, statistics and data literacy are FAR more useful than algebra, trigonometry, geometry, etc. in today's world.

I totally agree that math needs an overhaul.

This is exactly the topics most of my teachers skip! Stats and probability. Yes, bring data science back!

Teaching to the "Insert Standardized test here" sucks the life out of teaching.

Thank you! I work as a math tutor and it's so depressing watching students learn math that I know they will never use.

I thank you for wanting to do this, years as a Special Education teacher have shown me that the present norms of teaching math aren’t working.

Advanced algebra and calculus have been of no use and do not prepare anyone for today's world.

I have one child who just started high school and another in 4th grade. We're doing our children a disservice by not teaching them proper math literacy in today's society and how they could apply that knowledge to understand what's going on around them. From politics and polls to economy, ecology, and what the news is telling them. They should know what these things are telling them and even more importantly, what they aren't.

As a teacher, we must improve our content knowledge and practice to support our students for the world they will encounter.
