Thank you for enlightening the people who make decisions about curriculum. Teachers are expected to follow orders from people who do not teach. Unfortunately, teachers are not empowered to make the changes necessary for our future generations.

I have known too many people who have limited themselves based on a belief that they can't go into any major/field with math, because they're "not a math person." These changes would take down that barrier and open up a lot of futures for a lot of people. Let's make it happen!

I teach both math and science in middle school-- the science curriculum (via the NGSS) has stayed up to date with the world we live in, but the math curriculum certainly has not. We have loads of data and every has a calculator. Why are we teaching our students to do what calculators can do more accurately, instead of what calculators can't do at all?

We need students to be better prepared to enter the workforce. Students lack basic analytical skills. Many lack the necessary skills to run data analysis using excel, or database.

I am an early childhood educator trying to change t he minds of my colleagues in how we present math to our students. I believe infusing growth mindset skills along with students having the opportunity to practice and improve 21st century learning skills into the math curriculum will create strong math and science students in middle and high school.

When the top maths/engineering colleges are incorporating data analysis intensive courses right along with the writing intensives we know things have to change.

It’s hard to prepare our students for a future none of us can predict. Trying to do it based on instructional goals that were designed for meeting the needs back in the 1800 and 1900s makes no sense. It’s time for major reform of what and how we teach.
