Thank you for doing this! As someone who actually liked math in high school (the substance of which I rarely use today) but is now in a field where I daily (1) visualize data to influence decisions and (2) analyze data to draw insights.
I want my kids to be learning the stuff we know they'll use!

Though I don't yet feel prepared to teach data analysis & statistics, I can't wait for things to change. It feels very wrong to continue to teach students how to factor a polynomial when it may never come up again outside of my classroom.

Our education system ought to prepare students for the jobs of the future. Rlying on a decades-old curriculum conceived during the space-race is an egregious non-sequitur. To best serve students for future success, it is imperative to incorporate data literacy into our curriculums, for an increasingly data-driven world.

As a math teacher doing my best to make algebra, geometry, and other parts of the CCSS relevant to students' lives, the most engagement I get from my students occurs during statistical and probability sections.

Logarithms? Conics? Rationalizing expressions? I love all these topics myself but WHY does a student need to learn this to go to college?? Data Science should be an equal option to Algebra II as a college requirement! Best idea in education in decades!

As a Software Engineer 15 years out of high school, I'm now prepared to say that the traditional math curriculum at my school has never helped me in any practical way, professionally or otherwise. I believe that the current approach is tragic waste of resources that would be better spent on more practical skills and knowledge to help keep our young people competitive in the global economy.

My kids are still young, 4 and 2, so I’m really hoping that data analysis will be taught (and taught well) by the time they are in the upper grades. I’ve always enjoyed math and liked my algebra and calculus classes. However, I don’t remember a thing from them, probably because I never use it. As a special education teacher, though, I definitely gathered and analyzed data on behavior and academics, etc.

Instead of sticking with lessons/subjects that are mostly not used in the real world, and, if they are, they now are done using calculators and computers, and instead let's better prepare our kids for the workplace and higher learning.

Makes a lot of sense to me! We need to be teaching more useful data skills! There is a movement to push more "computational thinking" in the K12 curriculum and that these two movements can work together. [ I am writing grants to do that in the middle school math space.]
