I help _EVERY_ function (marketing, engineering, business, training, sales, etc), and there's a desperate need for just basic data literacy.

As a former teacher & Assistant Head in the UK, and now Head of a 1-12 LD school in the US I see the growing divide between the numeracy skills of US students and those in other countries. American education needs to modernize and address the needs of today rather than stay entrenched in curriculum that no longer works.

The ability to interpret the data generated from the ever-present algorithms in our expanding digital culture is critical. Many are struggling to constructively interpret the data that guides their effectiveness or impact, therefore drawing incomplete or incorrect conclusions. We see this in education with funding that is allocated based upon the interpretation of test scores that paint an incomplete picture and don't take into account the many variables when related to student success.

We want our children to make informed decisions based on meaningful data -- but we need to teach them how to gather and interpret the data. Let's make this happen!

Make a data literacy class a an option instead of Algebra 2. Students going into math or science need Algebra 2. No one else needs to learn about imaginary numbers.

Data science and data understanding will be critical as the amount of information grows exponentially in the Digital Age. It is plainly irresponsible to not do everything that we can to increase the data literacy of the population as a whole, in as many ways as possible.
