I've been a math teacher since 2008. Standard high schools, continuation schools, and now a college/HS blended program. Something that has dumbfounded me is the whole system seems defined to isolate those students who can handle calculus the soonest.
My years spent teaching at a continuation school always frustrated me when I'd get a senior in high school, who could barely multiple or add multiple digit numbers. But I was supposed to teach them Algebra 1.
I hope this can bring some balance to math in school. I will always be interested in taking surveys or answering questions about this topic.

Data fluency is so important to set our children up for success in their future. Our world is constantly changing, our curriculum should change with it to reflect the modern and relevant usage of it.

I hated math in school. I was decent at it but found most math lessons a pointless exercise. I now manage sales analytics and data visualization for a CPG natural foods company. I wish the math I was taught in school reflected the math I am using today. Data fluency is the backbone of the fast growing career fields. Please prepare our future generations appropriately.

If we don't start becoming more proactive in what we make available to our students in terms of relevant and authentic mathematics how can we expect them to be equipped leaders for the near future! The curriculum needs to allow for the freedom to create the 'mathematical' matter that matters!

As a math major in college and as a heavy data user now, I feel it's imperative to train our students in how to be much better-versed in handling and manipulating data.

I don’t use any upper level math I learned in high school or college. What I do work everyday at my job is excel and data sets - which were never covered. Please help prepare students - our future workers -for the real world, not imaginary numbers.
