The rigor of the Common Core Standards is NOT translating into learning or creating mathematicians for the present or the future. This is an URGENT matter. The time to make educational changes is NOW!!

I loved math in school and have a master's in chemical engineering from MIT. What I use everday are the data literacy skills I built in college. Much of it could have been taught to everyone at my high school, not just the privileged kids like me.

As a school math interventionist, I see the disconnect every day.

The need for Data Science in High School has never been greater as we are in a world filled with decisions made with data. Those who do not understand data will be left behind.

The entire educational system would benefit from an overhaul. Why has the education system not joined the 21st century?

I've been waiting for change for a very long time. Many of my colleagues feel the same way. NCTM is requesting change as well (see the primer: Catalyzing Change). I'm all in.

The need for data literacy and deep reasoning around data cannot be overstated. In a world saturated with data collection the implications are profound.

I am an elementary math teacher and mother of 2 high school aged children. My experience tells me we need a math revolution. It is time for data science to come to the forefront of high school mathematics. Contexts for learning mathematics is essential for preparing students to be 21st century contributers. How can we continue to place algebra and geometry at the forefront and yet write high school mission statements about preparing students for the real world?
