Black and White Photography is an amazing class at Marshfield High School. It teaches the basic understanding of developing your own film and pictures in the darkroom. It is a dying art and we can not let it leave MHS!

Black and White Photography was my escape. I loved just going in there and getting everything off my mind so I could just have time in the dark room doing what I love. This class means so much to so many people and taking it away would hurt many of us.
Lots of students love this class, there's no need to cut it because students pay for their own materials.
Black and White photography has been my favourite art class so far. The dark room is my favourite place to be in this school. Film photography is important. It forces you to actually learn how to take pictures and not depend on the camera to automatically know the settings. It teaches patience. If a roll of film doesn't turn out then you have to do it again. You have to wait to see what your picture is going to look like. Film is still taught at colleges. They still have dark rooms. It is important to have a background in film photography. Personally, I prefer my film camera over my digital one. I wouldn't have known that if I didn't take this class. Film doesn't have to be a dieing art. But it will be if we stop teaching it.
I've been waiting three years to even get art foundations just so I could take this class, I refuse to waste my time while the arts die and sports and other things get way more of the budget than they should. It is rediculous that sports that often we dont do very well in get more funding than an art that teaches students how to show the world something from their view. To show what art means to them. Its just not fair to kids that wait forever to take this class.

It helps each person involved learn more about the history of photography and get to experience developing film and using the dark room. This class is an escape from the fast-paced school day for many. Colleges still utilize this type of photography. This makes it an important class for our high school to offer.
THIS IS AN AMAZING CLASS!!! I fell in love with it just like many others did and it teaches so many great skills.
This is a good class, however the reason it is being cut is that Marshfield is focusing on career and job readiness skills and b/w doesn't prepare anyone for a real job in the future. It's fun, it's a novelty, but there is a lot of down time waiting for the darkroom. In addition, it is the most expensive class our art department funds. At nearly $2000 this year alone the $20 fee that students pay does not begin to make a dent In the cost of supplies. We will still offer Digital Photography which teaches all the same skills and more and makes you more marketable in the real world.

Because of this class and many other art classes, I have decided to purse my career in photography and art teaching to future high school students. This class has taught me so much and I want other students to feel the passion that I did in this class. BRING IT BACK!
