The local council has officially overturned the plastic bag ban in Fort McMurray. This result reflects the collective frustration of residents who preferred the previous system. I appreciate your contributions to this success and suggest we stay observant as the new policy takes effect.
Several years ago, plastic bags were banned in Fort McMurray, causing a massive inconvenience of having to buy a new reusable bag every time you go to the store. I'm sure most of you have more than 50 bags sitting somewhere in a closet collecting dust. I have more uses for the plastic bags than the reusable ones. I'm know most people can agree with me there.
Many of you have reached out to share similar frustrations regarding the current storage of unused reusable bags. The ongoing feedback confirms that this policy shift has created a recurring burden for our community members. We are preparing to present these common experiences to the local council.

The groundswell of support for this cause has surpassed my initial expectations. It is clear that many residents find the current policy burdensome and desire a more practical solution for their daily shopping needs. I look forward to presenting these collective concerns to the municipal leadership.

I reuse my plastic bags for small trash cans around the house. Now I have to go out and buy plastic bin liners which makes no sense at all.

Forget reusable bags. I always leave them in the trunk. Plastic is just better.

My closet is literally overflowing with those bulky bags from the store. They just take up space and I forget them in the truck half the time anyway. Bring back the plastic ones.

How am I supposed to clean the litter box without these bags?? Reusable ones are way too thick and gross to wash. Bring them back please.

I use the plastic bags way more than the reusable ones, they're super convenient, the only time I actually reused a reusable bag is to hold my gym shoes and some shakers..
