Although I do not have chickens myself, it is something I hope to be able to do in the future to share with my children and neighbours. Even if I never get around to it, I think it is something that a community should encourage its citizens to do within the proper, considerate boundaries.

Chickens are lovely docile creatures are important in the local, sustainable and secure food cycle. It is important for all of us to know where our food comes from and to take responsibility for it's care and security. Keeping chickens and bees along with gardens full of veg, fruit and herbs and community orchards in parks and along boulevards would all go such a long way to making Cambridge a progressive and more committed community in our local food security and global climate change.

As a little girl I was gifted an English hen and rooster by my parents. Raising them taught me responsibility and showed me the importance of knowing where my food came from. Would love to pass that on to my children!

I had backyard chickens when I lived in Kingston ( they are allowed there). They are not noisy, mine only clucked when they were laying once a day. It was great to have eggs from chickens that are being treated humanely.

As long as the chickens are well kept, they should be allowed within the city limits of Cambridge.

This is the type of thing the world needs. Backyard vegetable gardens. People keeping bees. Dry your laundry on a clothes line....... Get back to basics.

There is no reason not to allow this. There can be reasonable restrictions and safeguards put in place. Most of the world allows and encourages this.

My family has been blessed to live outside city limits and for 30 years we're raised laying hens and meat birds. As a child this was a valuable lesson for me as to where my food come from and taught me a positive work ethic. This should be an essential human right to own backyard chickens even if you are within the city.

From Preston. Backyard chickens are relevant to local food, food security and teaching children where food comes from. Let's make official what people already support and show the rest of Canada how progressive Cambridge is by changing these outdated policies. We must be willing to tackle climate change head-on and this is just one of the many ways we need to respond, showing too our commitment to making communities more sustainable, food secure and localized.
