I totally agree as people in other cities are allowed and raise chicken for personally consumption. Fresh eggs free of antibiotics is only way to preserve a healthy standard of living. Dean

I'm very interested now in how to raise backyard chickens so we can get some clean eggs. Thanks for the petition. Hope it will reach 1000 soon. :)

We live in East Galt and have considered having laying hens. Teaching the next generation self preservation by gardening and raising layers is an important part of being kind to our plant. Residents who choose to live in the city shouldn't be penalized. Not everyone can afford, wants or even needs the cost of "the full farm".

I have a 2yr old son who picks vegetables out of the garden each day and enjoys helping me prepare meals with the ones he has picked. It would be nice for him to be able to raise chickens as well. I believe its important for children to understand where their food comes from and to have a healthy, fun and educational means of obtaining their food.

Our family has a property on the outskirts of the city that is partially zoned as 'open space' - we're very lucky. We just started keeping chickens and it has been a tremendous experience for our 5 daughters. I only wish all children had the opportunity. Backyard chickens allow for much greater food independence.

Has anyone heard any new updates as to how this is going in council, or where we sit? I keep checking the times, and checking here for updates

We should be allowed to have chickens in our backyards. The benefits are immense.
