This is ridiculous, and detrimental to students who actively participate in school sponsored extracurricular activities. The administration should be ashamed.

As an upcoming senior I find it unfair to force us to take class periods that we don’t want to. All of us have been loyal to Mira Costa Highschool, and deserve to keep our schedules the way we want to as seniors. Not to mention the obvious problem with having athletes stay longer for periods and having to miss them more for games and maybe even practices. Aswell as all of the individuals with jobs like myself who also have other activities to do. For example I am the captain of the dance team this year I have a job, and I did club dance aswell, with college apps this will only get busier unless I can be at school earlier and get out later to work on my future. Thank you.

Throughout the years I've been at Costa (I'm a Junior). This by FAR has to be the worst year with our education department. With new management the rules for zero period, and truancy policy have been out of hand and ruined the reputation for students who want to learn and have a busy schedule. For school athletes this is completely unacceptable. As a Mira Costa Athlete this affects my schedule GREATLY. Not only will I need to miss class now next year but my profile will be filled with truancies for missing it. Please stop with these useless and unnecessary rules and for once put your students education before yourself. We come to school everyday to learn, the least you can do is provide the resources needed.

I want zero period. I take biotech right now and love the class. I would not have time in my schedule to take it during another time.

do not limit our education because you cannot handle managing more periods. we can handle over 6 periods of school so why not return the favor for us, the ones who actually want to and need to learn?

This school has continued to fail students within the last year. The truancy policy is harming the reputation of busy students why try their best to get out of the door and telling kids that they can’t put their bags on top of lockers and to put them inside is ridiculous. They put the bags ON TOP of the lockers because they don’t fit inside. They now have to carry around their sports AND school bag, something I have seen is a major contribution to muscle soreness and exhaustion on top of sports. This school has also failed to address the issue of teachers not doing their job and allowing a double standard of respect between teachers and students. Our tax payer dollars have contributed enough to support having a zero period. This is beyond unacceptable and dull minded. How will kids get a chance to rest between sports? How will kids get to ensure they attend all their classes before leaving during lunch or 5th period during a game? Kids have immense pressure in this school environment and in our country to overachieve. Stop taking things from our students and allow them to freely choose how their parents tax payer dollars can support them, not go behind their back and jeopardize them.

Not having a zero period would mean that my student athlete would miss fifth period valuable school time when leaving for tournaments. This impacts academic learning and grades. In addition, student athletes who work so hard physically, and mentally throughout the course of a day, especially during season- desperately need downtime and a break from campus during lunch before resuming afternoon practice. As the parent of a water polo athlete, who is often at the pool at 6 AM and a club practice till 10 , this would further jeopardize his sleep, his physical rest and his mental health.
