To loose such a committed and dedicated teacher such as Mr West to such an stupidly small thing would be a deviating blow to the entire school. Bring back Westy

By all accounts a very harsh decision against a dedicated teacher. Here's hoping a democratic vote will be taken notice of..in a democratic country?

A very OT reaction - even a warning may have been more than sufficient? What's happened to common sense today?

Travesty, this man was an excellent teacher. Trust the local rag to sensationalise it all

Damn disgrace! Bloody brilliant teacher and an even better person. Cannot believe this has happened. Reading the article in the Express and Star, it notes that the pupil who had been hit, who did not want to make a complaint or take it further has been bullied. I want to know what the school has done in reaction to this! I along with my brother a 3 sisters had the pleasure of being taught by Mr West. All agree he IS the best teacher there, the School should be proud to have had him a as a teacher. Bring back Westy!!

Best science teacher ever - stupid decision by those in charge.

Mr. West was the best teacher I had at secondary school. One of the few teachers who ever made any real efforts to accelerate my learning, and who actually gave a damn about his pupils. He single handedly taught our class A-level Physics modules that the St.Edmunds teacher was responsible for (but failed to teach), in the spare parts of his lessons! When teaching subjects with a practical nature, like Sciences, DT and PE, there is always a small risk of an accident. Clearly, the person wasn't even harmed, and wishes for him to be reinstated. It would be one of the worst decisions taken in years to get rid of him, as he had a commitment to generating an interest in learning that is rare to find; inspiring many students over the years to study Physics, and enjoy it! I'm sure his approach to teaching and engagement also inspired many teachers too!

Both my sons who attend & have attended S Peters, cannot speak highly enough of Mr West so in my mind that speaks volumes, good teachers are few & far between.

I think the decision to sack mr west. On the school mission statement agape, courage, trust ad FORGIVENESS! How do they expect the students to follow there rules if there don't follow them thereselves. It's a complete over reaction on the schools part. Yes it was stupid to bring a air rifle into the school but the student involved and the others who witnessed it aren't fussed. Bring back westy

Sad news, my favourite teacher! He has inspired countless pupils over the years. I left St Peter's 10 years ago to read physics at York, this would not have been possible without Mr West. If he's been sacked purely because of this accident this is a grave injustice.
