as a former teacher myself I see Richard experience as completely appalling, I only wish that I was as ambitious and engaging in the classroom as he clearly is, with that approach sometimes things can go wrong, but how much more can go right, with pupils enjoying and engaging with a difficult subject such as physics,I can only hope that at this late date common sense will prevail and a further generation of pupils will have the chance to benefit from Richard inspirational teaching

Absolute disgrace! An honest mistake to be made but St Peter's have crossed the line by sacking him.

Good teachers are hard to come by. Accidents happen

The students obviously feel safe around this teacher and he poses no threat. It was simply an accident.

Mr. West; definitely one of those teachers you remember forever!

Two of my daughters were taught by him. He's one if the best I know about and has been the inspiration of many pupils taking up a science degree. Unless he is reinstated, it will not only be a massive loss to future S.Peters students but also to the science profession as a whole.

So he's apologised, and the student has forgiven him, and no meaningful harm was done? I'm slightly confused about why he was sacked in the first place...

I was planning on going to St Peter's Sixth Form but I'm really disappointed that a teacher who a lot of people looked up to has been sacked for a accident in an in class experiment.

Sounds like an innocent mistake with no harm done, by a valuable teacher who would be a great loss to the school.

Mr West was one of the most engaging teachers at St. Peter's. You didn't feel as if he had to teach you, you could tell it was s calling to do so. Not a teacher to tell you to turn to page 256 of the text book, but teacher who would actively try and bring the subject alive. If the school lets him go it'll be its own foot it's shooting, but unlike the unfortunate accident it'll do itself real damage.

An inspiring teacher of which are increasingly few and far between nowadays. Bring back Westy!

As a science educator myself, its a terrible shame to see a teacher who's methods clearly do well with children, dismissed over an accident. It was an air pistol, not a shot gun!!!

I would trust this teacher with my life (and have done several times over the years) - lets support those who inspire our youth!

Mr.West was my form teacher and science teacher. Truly insirational and fabulous teacher. Always remember him as u do with all the good teachers. Ridiculous decision to dismiss him for teaching in an enterprising way that engages young people and makes them excited about learning.....he epitomises what all teacher should be like. Bring him back!!
