I saw this in the national press. Why would anyone well suited to being a teacher become one, if they get treated like this? The boy is old enough to join the army- yet a good teacher is sacked for accidently grazing him with a pellet..?!

Inspirational teachers are a rarity in this world - he is clearly a great teacher who engages his pupils and gets them interested in his subject. Bring back Westy!

Do you think people would petition for just any teacher? No probably not. But simply put.. Mr. West is a great and inspirational teacher. Not only does he creatively engage his pupils, he also cares. It was an accident I doubt he himself takes lightly but to which deserves forgiveness.

I though there was a shortage of good physics teachers. Good luck to this school if the think they can find a better replacement.

It was an accident! We are all human and can all make mistakes the best lesson to teach his pupils is forgiveness and it's obvious what they want & he deserves.

As a former student at St Peters I remember what a good teacher Mr West was and what a good rapport he had with us pupils! Bring back Westy! St Peters wouldn't be the same!

Accidents happen. Our responsibility is to love our neighbours as ourselves. I think it is really inspiring what pupils are doing for this teacher.

I was taught by this man over 20 years ago he was truely inspirational, an excellent teacher with an amazing understanding of how to motivate adolescents and a true ability to make physics come alive. Its clearly an error of judgement but it is such a loss to sack someone for one mistake when he has touched the lives of so many young people.
