A mistake from which everyone has learnt. It is, quite frankly, ridiculous to dismiss a teacher for this and parents should think long and hard before making complaints because the consequences of such actions can far outweigh any benefit they may feel has been achieved, and this is an example of that.

Accidents happen, and this was a minor incident at worst. There are always risks in physics and chemistry lessons but students accept them in the pursuit of knowledge. A smart school would be using the incident to teach about appropriate risk rather than react in fear and alarm - which is the better lesson for the pupils?

I'm a student from Malaysia, and as far away as the USA is, I think this teacher has been punished unfairly. The student was barely injured, and accidents can happen to anyone. Please don't take away these childrens' teacher.

I shot myself in the leg while performing a similar experiment at university (I studied astrophysics). It didn't hurt me despite having a serious disease that makes my legs easy to damage. It was easily done and should not result in a brilliant teacher losing his job.

the experiment could have been better designed but that is no reason to dismiss someone who is obviously a very popular teacher. just learn and move forward

It sounds like it was very much an accident. It would/should have been risk assessed but things happen.

teachers that can get through to the kids are worth their weight in gold. These pupils want him back past and present and that should show how good a teacher he is. You should also give him a pay rise

Physics is about experiments, and making it safe, but accidents will occasionally happen. Don't take the fun out of it.

it is a shame that an accident can cause the sacking of a good teacher and who is loved by past and present studetns
