Completely lost respect for the UCL for making this decision. This is a massive tragedy for science and i can't believe this decision was made based on the opinion of an unprofessional amateur blogger. UCL has made it clear their stance on equality and decided pleasing the media is more important than research and education. Shame on you.

Being a good scientist but a poor public speaker does not merit being forced to resign your job.

UCL has not bothered to check the veracity of the reporting (i.e. only ½-remembered fragments, not the whole speech) and they have not checked the dodgy credentials of the reporter. Sir Tim has given support to women scientists throughout his career. From its foundation, UCL was driven by a search for truth, not (venomous in this case) hearsay. UCL should respect its own original values. I further find this case appalling in the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta. Give the man a hearing before handing out a punishment.

I am a physicist and I find this shocking what has been done to this man. He is a knighted man of science and a Nobel prize winner. They should be ashamed for what they have done to him.

This man lost his job because he was maliciously slandered and libeled all over the internet and social media. They took a lighthearted home our of context to drag his name through the mud in order to create public outcry for their cause.

The day we make scientists afraid of having what they say misunderstood and used to remove them from their career will be a sad day for science indeed.
The actions of the UCL, ERC and The Royal Society have been entirely inappropriate, and have caused many an educated person to think much less of them.
